Replacing the plastic camera lens on your Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is fairly simple, if you can take the heat. A plastic camera lens is cool because it won’t crack or shatter like a glass one, but it will get scratched up. When scratches get too intense, to the point where it is affecting the quality of your pictures, you will know it is time for a new lens. Gather these tools for the job: A heat gun or hairdryer, a metal pry tool (linked above), a plastic pry tool, a razor blade, and rear panel adhesive (linked above).
Start this repair by heating up the glass back of the phone with a heat gun or hair dryer, so that you can soften the glue that holds it to the rest of the phone. Once the glue is softened, use the metal pry tool to cut the adhesive around the edges and lift the back panel away using your plastic pry tool. I discovered an easier way to release the back panel would have been to lift the top of the back panel, grab the edge of the pull tab inside and pull it out along the side of the device. This would be easier than prying around each of the edges. Whether you cut and pry, or pry and pull, the result is an exposed back panel holding your plastic camera lens. Be careful not to touch the actual camera lens that is attached to the motherboard or your pictures will appear blurry later. To remove the lens, heat it up like you did with the back of the phone earlier and then take the razor blade around the edges to have it fall out. Get as much of the original glue off the back panel before you drop the new lens in to assure a good set. Remove the back protective layer and place the lens into place being careful not to touch the lens surface because it is very hard to clean. Press it firmly into place and take the protective layer off the front. Now, add some professional adhesive to the inside of the back panel, especially if you plan to use this phone for a while after the repair, and you are done.
