Gather these tools for the job: a hair dryer or heat torch, a thin metal pry tool, , a plastic non-marring pry tool (or a razor blade if you don’t mind scratching the phone a bit) a business or playing card, and a small phillips screwdriver. Before you begin, as with most other repairs, make sure you have turned your phone off completely. Additionally, keep your screws, brackets and other pieces organized so you don’t mix them up when it comes time to reassemble your Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.

Begin, by heating up your Sony Xperia Z5 Premium to loosen the adhesive and carefully pry away the back panel with a thin metal pry tool. Once the top of the back is opened, you can use the pull tabs inside of the phone to lift away the back without bending or breaking the back panel. The battery also has pull tabs to pull those to remove the battery. If the pull tabs break, heat the phone and pry the battery away with the metal pry tool, like you did with the back of the phone. Be extremely careful not to puncture the battery. Next, use the small phillips screwdriver to remove screws holding the metal brackets at the side and bottom of the phone near the motherboard which will reveal the screen ribbon cables. Unsnap the screen ribbon cables and the charging port connector. Along the top of the motherboard, remove four screws and a plastic bracket in the same area. Unsnap the camera and the ribbon cable for the power buttons and vibrator motor and the ribbon cable for camera, from the motherboard. Remove another plastic bracket. Now, pull out the front camera and remove a metal panel covering the vibrator motor and a metal panel covering the loud speaker. Clipped into the side of the phone is the power and volume button rocker, unclasp those and the buttons and vibrator motor will come away. This piece comes with a fingerprint scanner which the U.S. version does not. The water-resistant charging port pops out of its spot. Removing the screen is like removing the back, heat it up and then slide a card between the LCD and the metal frame. Make sure you are not between the glass and the LCD trying to slide them apart; they don’t separate. Also do not slide the card around the bottom edge of the phone because that would break the ribbon cables which keep the screening functioning.

A replacement screen will most likely already have adhesive. If your Sony Xperia Z5 Premium frame is bent, the screen will not line up correctly, so try to get it as straight as possible before the screen goes on. Remove the protective cover from the adhesive, feed the ribbon cable through the screen, and press the screen into place. Return the power button, vibrator motor, and finger scanning bracket back into place on the side of the phone and clip it in. Put the plastic bracket back into the bottom and set the vibrator motor back into that space. Get the metal latches back onto the vibrator motor and the loudspeaker. Replace the charging port, a plastic piece, thermal rubber, the ear piece, and the motherboard on top of that. Be sure there are no ribbon cables underneath the motherboard before you put it down. Then, replace the headphone jack, front facing camera, and the black plastic piece goes into the top right corner. Next, put in the rear facing camera and plug it into the motherboard, along with the next plastic piece. Clip in the power buttons, and the long plastic piece goes onto the side of the phone. Click in the screen and the charging port cables and place the black plastic cover over the charging port and the base of the motherboard. Now, return the battery to your Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and clip it in. Test the phone by powering it on to make sure it works before replacing the back panel. Then, screw in the five screws around the motherboard area. If you are using the same back use strong double-sided tape to stick the back on. If you are using a new back, it will most likely have its own adhesive. Push the back onto the phone and you are done. There are a lot of random plastic pieces, so it is best that you follow the video to get the full visual experience of this repair.
