Are you a diehard Apple fan who wants to show it? Or, do you just want to stand out from the crowd? Gather these tools for the job: a pentalobe screwdriver, a small suction cup, a plastic non-marring pry tool, a phillips head screwdriver, tweezers, and black electrical tape. Before you begin, as with most other repairs, make sure you have turned your phone off completely. Additionally, keep your screws, brackets and other pieces organized so you don’t mix them up when it comes time to reassemble your iPhone 6.
Your new light-up logo does come with instructions, so if you would like to try yourself go ahead, but the instructions are in Chinese, so unless you want to risk damaging your iPhone 6, you might want to stay here. JerryRigEverything is not doing this with your hands though, so even with English instructions and a comprehensive video, you still might run into issues. Keep in mind, iPhone 6 warranties have mostly expired, so only attempt this if you have nothing to lose.
First, take the pentalobe screwdriver and remove two screws from the bottom of the iPhone 6. Next, stick your suction cup onto the glass screen and carefully pull up on that as you use the plastic pry tool to lift the screen from the phone, but not more than 90 degrees from the phone. The video clears this up if that is confusing. Then, unscrew two screws next to the charging port, remove the metal plate they held and unplug the battery. After that remove five screws from the other metal plate and unsnap four ribbon cables from the motherboard using the plastic pry tool. Hold the adhesive pull tabs underneath the battery using tweezers, pull them up, remove the battery from the phone, and you will have access to the metal logo. Being mindful of the wire cable at the top of the logo, use your tweezers to get under and lift the logo away from the body of the phone. Now, stick the light-up logo into the phone where the old logo was, you will feel it sort of snap into place.
To begin returning the battery to your iPhone 6, stick adhesive strips to the phone body to hold the battery down, put the battery back in and plug it in. Next, go to the screen side, there is a piece of tape over some solder pads; remove the tap, remove any residue that stays behind using the plastic pry tool without damaging the soldering. Then, plug the screen into the motherboard, attach the logo to the soldering, and cover the connection with black electrical tape. Replace the metal plates, screw them in, and put the screen back on by lining it up first from the top and then pressing it in along all of the sides. At last, your logo is ready: it will light up any time you press the power button and will dim when your screen does.
