The toolkit used for this repair can be found on Amazon, at this link.

Assemble these tools for the job: a T-3 bit, a plastic non-marring pry tool (or a razor blade if you don’t mind scratching the phone a bit), and a small phillips screwdriver. Before you begin, as with most other repairs, make sure you have turned your phone off completely. Additionally, keep your screws organized so you don’t mix them up when it comes time to reassemble.

Start by using your T-3 bit to remove the bottom two screws, these are the only screws you will need the T-3 bit for. Second, remove the sim card trays, by taking out the screws and pulling the trays out. Then, pry the screen off with your pry tool of choice. A cool thing that Huawei does is put arrows on many metal parts inside the phone, so that you can tell which way is up while you’re making a repair. Next, unscrew the battery port and the screen port and unsnap those from the motherboard like you would snap up a Lego piece. Now, unscrew the bracket for the extension ribbon cable and snap that up. Remove the six screws for the plastic bracket, which is also the phone’s loudspeaker, and you’ll find the charging port. From there, disconnect the wire cable, the bottom of the extension cable, and gently lift away the charging port. Go up to the battery where you’ll find a pull tab. The pull tab removes adhesive from one quarter of the battery, but the rest of the phone will be glued down. When you take out the battery, be careful not to damage the screen cable that lies beneath it. Unsnap that screen cable from the motherboard. then, unscrew the motherboard. Next, flip up the clasp on the power button and volume button that are plugged into the side and slide out the connector. After that, take the plastic bracket off of the top of the phone, unclip the wire cable, and the motherboard can be removed from the frame. Now, you can unclasp the front facing and back facing cameras from the motherboard. You are left with the screen of the phone, an LCD covered by glass in front and plastic in the back. If your phone screen is cracked you would buy a new one and transfer over the vibrator and earpiece onto the new one and then assemble the phone normally. As soon as the screens for the Honor 5X become available, they will be linked to this post and the accompanying video.

Begin the reassembly by snapping the cameras back in like Lego pieces and sliding the motherboard back into place. Reattach the screen ribbon cable and the wire cable and plug the power and volume buttons back into the motherboard; don’t forget to flip the clasp back down as well. Screw the motherboard back into the phone, set the charging port back into place and connect the extension ribbon cable to the port. Next, set in the battery, plug in the wire cable to the charging port, and screw the bottom black plastic piece in on top of the port. Then, plug the battery into the motherboard, plug the extension cable into the motherboard and screw the metal bracket back onto the battery connection and cable connection. Now turn on the still open phone to test the connections. If the screen looks abnormal, turn off the phone, reattach the connections, and try again. Once it looks good, connect the screen to the back of the phone and clasp it carefully around the sides.
