Nexus 5 Complete Tear Down

So I take apart a lot of phones.  In the past I haven’t been too impressed with LG’s build design but this time around I feel they did a fantastic job.

They took a page out of Samsung book and make the charging port replaceable.  Which is super convenient because the charging port is one of the most abused pieces of hardware on the phone. Look at 1:44 if you want to see where it comes out.  Making the charging port replaceable by the end user is a huge plus to everyone involved.  It is easier for the DIY’er who wants to fix their own phone for cheap.  It also hugely benefits LG when their phone comes back for repair.

(At the moment a charging port for a Samsung Galaxy S3 is about 10 bucks, I would imagine the Nexus 5 will be priced similar once the replacement parts start filtering into the market.)
